John Nix: Founder, CEO

As the founder of Vobal Technologies and a technology leader, John is responsible for the strategic direction of Vobal Technologies and directing technology development. John brings with him nearly two decades of experience in the telecommunications industry, as well as experience in the manufacturing industry as an engineer at The Coca-Cola Company and the Georgia Tech Research Institute. John served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, where he planned and managed the installation of line-of-sight microwave networks. Prior to founding Vobal Technologies, John co-founded Go2Call, a VoIP services company that carried over 1 billion minutes and won several awards. Go2Call was sold in 2007.

John holds a B.S. in physics from Davidson College, an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a Master of Engineering Management degree from the Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science at Northwestern University.  John is the inventor of over a dozen issued and pending patents.

Ronnie Raviv: COO

Ronnie is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Vobal Technologies. In this role Ronnie oversees the execution of Vobal Technologies' network and service strategy, production, vendor management, and policies.  Prior to joining Vobal Technologies, Ronnie worked in a variety of roles and industries, including software developer and data analyst for the transportation industry, digital strategy consultant, actor, and Director of Operations in the medical device industry.

Ronnie holds a B.S.E. in Engineering and Management Systems from Princeton University, with a thesis focus on transportation, and an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, concentrating on Marketing and Statistics.  Ronnie also graduated from the Conservatory program at Second City in Chicago and is fluent in Hebrew.

 

Walter Kane: Vice President, Sales

Walter is responsible for direct sales and the creation and management of a worldwide distribution network. Walter is a seasoned consultative sales management professional and acknowledged expert in maritime communications with 30+ years of relevant industry experience in sales, product management and technical services.

Prior to joining Vobal Technologies, Walter held executive sales management positions with Blue Ocean Wireless of Dublin, Ireland, a startup company focused on maritime GSM technology; and Globe Wireless of Palm Bay, Florida, a leading provider of communications, operational and IT solutions to the maritime industry. Walter’s experience also includes a distinguished career as Radio Electronics Officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine and U.S. Coast Guard.

Walter was nominated, elected and is currently on the Board of Directors for the Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services (RTCM) which monitors and participates in the development of international standards for maritime radio communications and electronic navigation systems. Walter attended the Institute of Maritime Electronics, Sylvania Technical School and has received multiple industry certifications and awards.

 

Andrew Kwong: Advisory Board

Andrew provides assistance and consulting for Vobal’s software and network architecture. Andrew previously worked as Go2Call’s Vice President of Technology. Prior to joining Go2Call, Andrew served as a consulting manager at KPMG Consulting, managing large-scale eBusiness projects for several Fortune 500 companies. Andrew also served as a part-time faculty member at North Central College, Illinois, where he taught graduate level classes on Management Information Systems and IT Management.

Andrew received a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Ohio State University. He also holds an MBA in Finance/Strategic Management from North Central College, where he completed the international MBA exchange program in London with a focus on customer and product profitability. Andrew is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese.
